Dana Point - Avalon - Long Beach

Here we are in Dana Point at the temporary slip. Dana Point is really nice but a bit of a drive for us and 5 year wait for a slip.

Sunday 11/15/09 - Pulled out of our temporary slip in Dana Point and headed to Avalon on Catalina Island. We needed to move the boat out of Dana Point and get it to Long Beach before we came home to Northern CA. We left around 10 am and motored for 5 and a half hours to Catalina Island. We had barely enough wind to use the main for stability. Waves weren’t much but we were rolling about a bit so having the main up was nice.

Pulling into Avalon harbor we were met by a harbor boat. We paid for 2 nights and were assigned a mooring. It seemed very close to a neighbor boat but we had no trouble getting tied up.






		It was a cold night and we used a portable propane heater to warm the cabin but only when we were up. Dawn on Monday morning lights up the Casino nicely. It is not a casino, it was one when built so is called that now.



It is a nice harbor and pretty quiet on a weekday winter day.





	We went ashore and touristed a bit.

	After another chilly night on the boat we head out for Long Beach. No wind for a 4 and a half hour power trip.



			This Yellow Rumped Warbler joined us for lunch. Funny thing is we were 12 miles from land when she showed up.



		We saw dolphins, seals, whales and birds.



		The oil platforms are impressive.
